The Real Meaning of Words

Thomas and I were having a discussion recently. There were a couple of sticking points we couldn’t get past…the reason being… he has MAN Disease. BIG GRIN.

However, after much contemplation, I decided our difference of opinion stems from the planets. You know, Mars and Venus. Or maybe we could blame it on Cancer and Libra (he just had a birthday) but regardless it’s an age old argument.

As men and women we are naturally going to view these two situations in different light. We even put different words to the definitions. We have different lifestyles.

I know…you’ve been reading with bated breath. What are the words? What is the situation? Drum roll please…..

Entanglements and expectations….

Horrid words to any red blooded American man. Especially men of the single persuasion who want to avoid commitment and responsibilities. Now before Thomas accuses me of throwing him under the bus, we weren’t having this discussion about the two of us.

Heaven forbid I should entangle him or have any expectations. I, after all, am well versed in his MAN disease and understand that there are just some things that can‘t be helped. Another Big Grin.

Me on the other hand would choose kinder, gentler words such as attachments and desires. Actually I do like the word expectation because I think it is a clearer indication of THE RULES! Hahaha….I crack myself up. You female readers probably understand exactly what I’m talking about.

But back to expectations verses desires. I can see where expectations could be viewed in a harsh light. No one appreciates undo expectations arbitrarily thrust upon them.

However, if you’re going to sign up for the Kool-Aid, there are just some expectations that come with it. Employees are expected to be on time. Employers are expected to make payroll. So on and so forth.

You can’t escape expectations. But as a friend of mine reminds me quite often, it’s all in the gift wrapping.

The Rest of the story....

It's been a couple of days now, and I'm back to this topic. It's funny how some topics keep lingering.

Thomas, my good friend, is now off the hook, not because he's right, but because I have discovered another man with the same thought process.

I interviewed an aquaintance for an article. I think you'll find his philosophy familiar:

I'm glad to be able to share my thoughts on the subject, for I do not want to mislead, give false hopes or anything hurtful to anyone. I am in a time of my life where I want to live, have fun, enjoy, and make the most without the pressure of commitment or expectation. I know that may not be right for everyone, but it is right for me right now.

Relation and connection are not somewhere and sometimes but everywhere and always. ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson.
